Frequently Asked Questions
What is Person Centered Therapy?
Person Centered Therapy employs a non-authoritative approach that allows clients to take more of a lead in sessions so they are able to discover their own solutions. During person-centered therapy, a therapist acts as a compassionate facilitator, listening without judgment and acknowledging the client’s experience without shifting the conversation in another direction. The therapist is there to encourage and support the client without interrupting or interfering with their process of self-discovery, as they uncover what hurts and what is needed to repair it.
What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of struggles. Numerous research studies suggest that CBT leads to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life.
This method usually involves efforts to change negative thought and behavioral patterns by working collaboratively with the client.
CBT uses in-session discussion and "homework" to be done outside of sessions to help individuals learn to be self-sufficient and able to change their own thinking, problematic emotions, and behavior.
CBT emphasizes what is going on in the person’s current life, rather than what has led up to their difficulties. A certain amount of information about one’s history is needed, but the focus is primarily on moving forward in time to develop more effective ways of coping with life.

How are in person sessions conducted?
Sundial Counseling Center operates mostly off of telehealth sessions, but is striving to provide options for in-person sessions 1-2 days a week. We are still working to identify a physical office at this time, but will be located in the Fairhope/Daphne/Spanish Fort area. This information will be determined soon!
Sundial Counseling Center uses two different secured platforms for telehealth sessions. We are partnered with Rula for telehealth only clients and Psychology Today for clients that prefer in-person, but occassionally need to utilize our telehealth options. Both platforms provide secure video sessions and ensure your confidentiality is protected, however, it is your responsibility to ensure you are located in a secure environment with no one else around at the time of your session.
When you reach out to us to schedule your session we will discuss your expectations for therapy and determine which platform is best for you!
